  “To hold to the headship of Christ, it is therefore necessary to obey the organization that he is personally directing. Doing what the organization says is to do what he says. Resisting the organization is to resist him.” (Watchtower, May 1, 1959, page 269).

  “… a mature Christian … does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbor private ideas when it comes to Bible understanding. Rather, he has complete confidence in the truth as it is revealed by Jehovah God through his Son, Jesus Christ, and “the faithful and discreet slave.”” (Watchtower, August 1, 2001, page 14).

  “In this time of the end, Christ has committed “all his belongings” - all the earthly interests of the Kingdom - to his “faithful and discreet slave” and its representative Governing Body … The anointed and their other sheep companions recognize that by following the lead of the modern-day Governing Body, they are in fact following their Leader, Christ.” (Watchtower, September 15, 2010, page 23).

  The only bit of Watchtower advice I would wholeheartedly recommend is this;

  “You may wisely decide against putting your trust in imperfect men and their fallible predictions and promises.” (Watchtower, March 15, 1966, page 168).

  I would like to see the media stop calling these people “Islamist” terrorists. Followers of Islam were often called Muhammadans in the past, but now they are called Muslims. Presumably, to appease the sensitivities of your average Muslim, these murderous shits are called Islamists, as if that makes them different to a Muslim. They should be called Muslim Terrorists. And if the various Muslim bodies don’t like it, then they should be told to go and sort the evil scum out.

  IMHO racism is the logical endpoint of a chain of mind sets – tribalism > patriotism > nationalism > racism. It’s the idea that your tribe, nation, race, is superior to the rest. It’s irrational because if you were born somewhere else, you would believe a different tribe, nation, race was the most superior. It could be argued that it’s the ultimate arrogance; my race is best because I was born in it, in other words, because of me.

  Of course black people can be racist. I think one of the most virulent racists I’ve come across in my life was a black kid I was at school with. It was kids like him that turned me racist until JWs cured me of it. Much later on a black Muslim man married an extended member of my family, and he was an equally virulent racist. I’ve also met a few white equivalents, but generally speaking, most people I’ve met in my life, both black and white, are just ordinary decent people.

  David Attenborough's new book

  i haven't read his new book, but i've read bits of it that were serialised in a newspaper.. attenborough is a fascinating man and has a lot of interesting things to say.. his new book is about the environment and how to save it, basically.. he wants us to drastically cut down our meat intake and eat more fruit and veg.

  this got me thinking.

  how would that work?

  Strange, but apparently true. The really weird thing is, billions of these trees are sprouting up in areas that were previously too cold for them to flourish. But that can’t be because the planet is warming up, because we all know that global warming is an another Attenborough myth.

  Nice one jp, you have articulated what I have been thinking for some time now. It’s such a shame. When I first joined this forum, it was such a breath of fresh air, with some truly insightful posters. Where have they all gone? Drowned out with vitriol, insults and rabid right wing bullshit.

  Can you explain that statement please? From what I can gather the total metropolitan population of the USA’s five largest cities (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Phoenix) is about 65 million, which is just under 20% of the total population. What am I missing?

  There was an item on the news last night about transgenders demanding the right to join and play in female rugby teams. Whatever next? I think they should have their balls chopped off. Mind you, I can see the attraction of playing rugby against women.
